Brilliant, Kathleen. And such a pleasure to read. The exquisite writing contributes immeasurably to the power of your thought. We've heard all this before but not this way.

I'm sending gift subscriptions to a few people who STILL don't get it. Or maybe they do and just don't care.

I had a "Start Seeing Fascism" sticker made back in the 1990s. (Remember those "Start Seeing Motorcycle" bumper stickers? It looks like that.) It's still on my front door, below the "Stop the Genocide!" sign. and in all these years not a single person has ever mentioned it.

All the consternation over Trump—it's been almost a decade now—has been used by both parties to distract us from serious issues like wealth inequality and climate change, and also from the obvious fact that we don't have a democracy any more. The so-called leaders we do have are far less competent/conscientious than those of the countries we despise. Go BRICS!

Kathleen, you and Caitlin Johnstone are two of my favorite writers, because your passionate critique combines laser-focused analysis by way of an acerbic, Hunter Thompson-like accounting of our ills at the hand of the oppressor class. And all coming from a foundation of a love of humanity, and our planet. Thank you.

“Obviously every government has its shortcomings, but here in America we are at a starting point of ask not what the government can do for you because it sure as hell isn't going to do any of it. This includes basics in other nations like health care or modest livability. The brainwashing has been so complete that individuals think they are free, when in fact they are free to be poor, to toil to the point of madness to keep up, to be free to pay taxes to fund an aggressive war machine. So much freedom, it hurts.”

Great writing will help us build the peoples coalition we so desperately need. Keep on trucking’. Peace, t

What an outstanding piece of writing, Kathleen! I'm forwarding this to friends and family as you covered all the bases on the immense inequality in America which too many of our fellow citizens still haven't connected the dots and believe the falsehoods put forth by the oligarchic controlled mainstream media 24/7, even believing "might is right" and go along with the imperial killing machine of the Anglo-American-Zionist Empire for world domination.

Glad you mentioned the high cost of an ambulance ride too! WE fear and demonize China because they have been making great strides toward an egalitarian society which is anathema to the capitalist agenda and philosophy. And let's not forget: American capitalists and companies (and other nations too) moved most of their manufacturing to China for cheaper wages, reduced environmental laws, non-union labor, and tax incentives, which brought the nation a great deal of prosperity. China is making great progress with their Belt & Road Initiative too!

On censorship, it eventually backfires, when people begin to realize who's deceiving who and band together in trying or overturning those restrictive laws or directives.

A grateful reader!

I couldn’t think of a thing to add to your piece. But other readers did so and did so very well. Ditto!

Thanks Kathleen, inarguably relevant and prodigiously pregnant with promise. It's coming up to Australia Day here soon and the narratives seem to be even more blatant, exploited by an elite who ingratiate themselves into myths of egalitarianism, rugged individualism, and validated settler-colonialism. The complete idiocy of a national identity today, employed surreptitiously as social glue, but disguising the agendas of actors who use nationality as a port-of-convenience or a source of imperial agency, keeping the flocks of livestock securely in their pens 'til cometh the hour. Heavy, frustrated sigh...
